Wonderful animals of Yakutia

I love my Motherland. I was born, live and study in Yakutia. I love the lesson about the world around me. During the lesson we talk and learn a lot of new things about animals and birds that live in our forests. I also enjoy reading various books about animals, I like to draw and sculpt them from plasticine.

I would like to introduce you to the animals that interested me.

Lynx

Yakutia is home to the largest form of lynx, with very lush and soft winter fur and tufts on its ears. The number of lynx is related to the number of hare. Therefore, there are especially many lynxes in Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk. In addition to hares, it hunts musk deer, partridge, hazel grouse, etc.

Brown bear

Inhabits high-trunk taiga forests, prefers the wilderness of mountain streams and river valleys. Body length up to 2 m, weight 170 to 300 kg. It goes into hibernation at the end of September - beginning of October. Emerges from the den at the end of April – beginning of May. Has 1-3 cubs. It feeds mainly on plant and berry foods. They can hunt ungulates.

Polar bear

Weight up to 400 kg. Length up to 230 cm. The fur color is white, the soles are pubescent, the neck and head are elongated, the ears are short. The wool is very thick, dense and waterproof. Able to go long periods without food and make long journeys. Only pregnant females hibernate. Has 1-3 cubs. Listed in the Red Book.

White Arctic fox

Inhabitant of the tundra zone. In winter, it wanders far, penetrating into the taiga as far as the central regions of Yakutia. Has valuable white fur. Reproduces once a year in burrows. The female brings 7-8, maximum 16-18 puppies. However, due to lack of food, the Arctic fox has a high mortality rate of young animals. The main object of the fur trade.

Fox

Wolf

A very ferocious and bloodthirsty predator. Harmful to reindeer and horse breeding. In winter it hunts in a pack. Destroys a large number of wild ungulates, chickens and waterfowl, hares. The wolf rut takes place in February. At the end of April - beginning of May it makes nesting dens. Puppies are born in May. There are from 3 to 8 puppies in the litter. In summer it leads a paired lifestyle.

Hare

Inhabits all of Yakutia. For various reasons, it disappears for 10-11 years, then appears again. The number of cubs is up to 11, on average 5-6. Most numerous in Central Yakutia. Gray in summer and white in winter.

Squirrel

Valuable fur-bearing animal. The skin of the Yakut squirrel has a high commercial value. It feeds on conifer seeds, mushrooms and berries. It also eats animal food. The female brings from 3 to 12 cubs. Lives and reproduces in hollows and peculiar nests - gnats.

Chipmunk

In ancient times, this species came to taiga Siberia from North America. Representative of the squirrel family. It lives in a hole where there is a nest made of soft dry grasses. Around the nest it arranges food supplies - nuts, berries, plant seeds. It feeds on them all winter during short awakenings and in early spring during periods of food shortage.

Moose
