Brucellosis of domestic reindeer

Brucellosis of domestic reindeer

Momsky ulus is unfavorable for reindeer brucellosis. In total, 2 unfavorable points were registered in the ulus. (Sasyr village, Pobeda village). At the end of 2006, there were 9 reindeer herds in the village of Sasyr and 3 reindeer herds in the village of Buor-Sysy. There are a total of 16 reindeer herds in the ulus. Animals reacting positively to brucellosis are registered annually. The frequency of research is 2 times a year during summer and autumn coralization.

In 2006, a total of 14,836 samples of reindeer blood serum were tested for reindeer brucellosis at MUP "Artyk" - 2377, PC "Maltan" - 7794, MUP "Pobeda" 4845.

In 2006, the research plan for brucellosis was completed. The study covered 12 reindeer herds out of 16. For this purpose, field visits were organized by veterinary specialists from the ulus Veterinary Department. The study was carried out using the Rosbengal sample (RPS) during summer and during the autumn-spring inventory in reindeer herds. Vaccination of young animals from the herds of PC "Maltan", State Unitary Enterprise "Artyk" was carried out.

Disadvantaged settlements of Sasyr, Ulakhan-Chistaysky Nasleg. There are two reindeer herding farms in the nasleg: PC “Maltan” - 6 reindeer herds; MUP "Aartyk" - 3 reindeer herds.

In June 2006, in the reindeer herds of the village of Sasyr, express tests for brucellosis were carried out by a visiting laboratory as part of a commission, together with specialists from the Department of Veterinary Medicine from Yakutsk. The study covered 6 reindeer herds from disadvantaged localities. Postgraduate students of the YANISH together with employees of the district Veterinary Administration took part in the work. At the same time, young animals of the current year of birth were vaccinated against brucellosis by the oral method, with mandatory tagging of immunized animals. Data on the results are given in the table, data on the livestock - in the appendix.

In total, 437 samples reacted positively to RBP in 2006. The laboratory examined 786 blood serum samples. According to RA, RSK, RID, 278 samples of blood serum from reindeer belonging to the Artyk Municipal Unitary Enterprise, Maltan Municipal Unitary Enterprise, and Pobeda Municipal Unitary Enterprise reacted positively. In 2007, 174 samples reacted positively according to RBP, of which 114 samples were positive according to RID.

Blood serum studies are carried out selectively during summer and autumn slaughter with culling of positively reacting animals. Anti-brucellosis measures with full coverage of the entire livestock of all herds in this disadvantaged area are impossible due to the difficulties of the transport scheme and the lack of means of transportation. Uninterrupted provision of transport (helicopters, cars, horses) and repair of corrals are necessary. Over the past decade, repairs to the corrals have never been carried out due to lack of funds. At the moment, negotiations are underway on the repair of corrals and the establishment of transport communications.

p. Buor-Sysy, Indigirsky nasleg. Reindeer husbandry is carried out by the Pobeda municipal unitary enterprise. The department has 3 reindeer herds with a total population of 3120 heads. The habitats are located on the migration route of wild reindeer, which creates even more factors for the spread of diseases. These herds are immunized first, because there is an increased risk of contact and infection from wild reindeer during autumn and spring migration.

The percentage of infection with brucellosis for 2006 is 2.59%, of the 10,748 animals examined, 78 had a positive result; Research methods: serological according to RPB, RA, RSK, RID; Sick animals are subjected to sanitary slaughter.

Economic damage

The economic damage caused by brucellosis is caused by abortions, the birth of non-viable calves, barrenness, as well as significant expenditures of funds allocated for anti-brucellosis measures.

Damage from diseases: for brucellosis - 278 of the entire livestock in 2006. In total, over the past two years, 378 animals were forced to be slaughtered, including breeding stock.

In total, the damage prevented in the ulus based on the results of veterinary preventive measures for 2006 amounted to 2 million rubles.

Brucellosis as a zooanthroponosis. Prevention methods

Brucellosis is a zooanthroponotic disease, that is, humans can also become infected from animals. The indigenous population can become infected through the nutritional route by consuming raw meat, milk, bone marrow, parenchymal organs, and through microdamage to the skin during household use of deer skins. A person experiences general intoxication, damage to the musculoskeletal system, nervous and reproductive systems. Often the disease becomes chronic and occurs in alternating exacerbations and remissions. Often a person partially loses his ability to work and reproductive function.

According to the MSES of the Momsky ulus, 48 people were examined for brucellosis, mainly agricultural workers (reindeer herders, cattle breeders) and veterinarians. 2 patients were identified.

Methods for preventing human brucellosis are combating brucellosis in farm animals, prohibiting the consumption of meat, milk and other products obtained from sick animals in raw form, without disinfection. As well as vaccination of agricultural workers, indigenous people, that is, people in the risk category.
